Samurai Jeans was established in Osaka in 1998 based on the concept that jeans ultimately have no value unless the creator and wearer are united in their commitment. They strive to create fabrics with unique texture and atmosphere, pushing the envelope of what is possible with denim by paying close attention to the provenance of the cotton types they use, their characteristics, the shape of the threads they spin, while also striving to use traditional Japanese dyeing and weaving techniques rather than the more modern and generic methods found elsewhere. 15oz Otokogi selvedge denim / Kinari selvedge pocket bags / Steel Samurai Japan buttons / Copper Samurai rivets / Brass Samurai hidden rivets / Exclusive leather patch and flasher / Red Rayon label / Regular straight fit / One–wash
Samurai created this model as a nod to the classic jeans of late 40s to early 50s, often thought to be the apex of vintage jeans style. Using their classic S0510XX as a base, they modified the shape for this model and then packed it full of specs and details unique to this model. The silhouette is a regular straight with a little more room around the hips than the S0510XX, and it tapers down gently to the hem, striking a nice balance between being too wide or too narrow. For the denim, they used their popular 15oz Otokogi selvedge denim made of Texas cotton spun into slubby #6 warp yarns, giving this fabric a rough, uneven texture and incredible fade potential. The pocket bags are a kinari–colored selvedge fabric, and all the cotton threads, thread colors, needle/stitch counts, stitch widths, etc. have been done to new specifications on this model to better express the atmosphere of those vintage jeans from back in the day. The stitching on the back pockets is done in a yellow cotton thread in their current seagull shape.
